Australian HC urges upon need for strengthening mutual trade between Pak-Australia
SIALKOT, April 06, 2011 (PPI): The High Commissioner of Australia in Pakistan Mr. Tim George has said that there was huge scope of promoting agricultural business with Pakistan, besides, assuring full cooperation and technical assistance to promote and develop agriculture, education and agriculture sectors in Pakistan.
He vowed to make all out sincere efforts to boost mutual trade ties between Pakistan and Australia, saying that the time was ripe to further strengthen these mutual trade ties between the two countries. He assured to pride all the technical assistance for ensuring the easy and direct access of Sialkot exporters to Australia’s international trade markets.
He stated this while addressing an important meeting held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here today.
He stressed upon the need of making some effective and positive steps for boosting and strengthening the mutual trade ties between Pakistan and Australia, inviting the Pakistan business community to divert their business activities to Australia, besides, participating in all the coming industrial exhibitions and trade fairs being held soon in Australia.
He said that Australia would improve Pakistan’s agriculture and irrigation system, saying Australia was helping in capacity building of the Pak armed forces, as the Australia has been enjoying cordial trade and political relations with Pakistan. He said Australia has donated US $ 75 million for the help of Pakistan’s devastating flood victims.
He said that Australia will 100 more scholarships in agri education in Pakistan, as there was a big scope of joint venture between Australia and Pakistan in agri business.
He offered some direct trade relations to Sialkot business community, besides, pledging full support and technical assistance to ensure the easy access of Pakistan business community to international trade markets of Australia and Europe through Australia.
He agreed with SCCI proposal regarding the regular exchange of updated trade information and mutual trade delegations to enhance the trade between the two countries.
On this occasion, the Sialkot businessmen pointed out that there was no doubt to say that Sialkot made Sports Goods, Surgical Instruments, Leather Products, Gloves of all sorts, Textiles Items, Sports Wear, Martial Arts Uniforms & Accessories, Musical Instruments, Kitchen Ware, Hollow Ware, Knives, Cutlery items and Military Uniform Badges etc. could find a good market in Australia. The main hurdle is direct link between business communities of both countries. There is lack of communication and proper marketing.
They said that Sialkot exporters have a great potential to explore and capture the international trade markets of Australia by exporting their world class traditional and non-traditional export products. For improving bilateral trade, Sialkot exporters suggested that exchange of trade delegations and one-to-one meetings of businessmen of both sides may be arranged. This would require both sides to ensure a simple visa process to enable the businessmen to meet each other as and when needed. Sialkot is a unique city enriched with its historical background and strong industrial base. It is one of the most important economic centres, recognized as the only export oriented city of the country. With the gradual growth of exports, the industrialists decided to setup a platform for facilitation in business activities and other relating matters, they added.
Sialkot exporters told the visiting Australian High Commissioner that most of the developed countries are importing surgical instruments from Sialkot. In leather products and textile sportswear, we compete with other countries, in quality and style. Similar is the case with other items produced in Sialkot.
