Quick school repairs after flooding in Thai South

TRANG, April 7 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Education is speeding up the restoration of flood-damaged schools in Thailand's southern region; while inundations have remained in two districts of Trang Province.

Thai Education Minister Chinnaworn Boonyakiat has ordered the immediate restoration of flood-damaged schools in the South; so their next school term can start on schedule. The Thai Education Ministry will also hand out donations to flood-affected teachers on April 10 and 11.

Meanwhile, floods have remained in Trang's Muang and Kantang Districts and over 10,000 local people have been affected by the collapse of a 100 metre dyke along the Trang River. Floodwater has also hit local farmlands and over 500 houses. The overflow from the Trang River has caused Tambon Bang Rak of Muang District to have been submerged by 20-80 centimeters of water.

In Krabi Province, the hardships of evacuated flood victims in Tambon Krabi Yai are worsened, as thieves broke into their abandoned houses at night. They requested security authorities to increase patrols.

People as well as public and private organisations in Thailand are making donations for the southern flood victims through various agencies, including MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), the operator of modernine TV, radio MCOT nationwide networks and the Thai News Agency (TNA). A number of people have come to the MCOT headquarters to help move and pack the donated necessities to be delivered to the southern flood victims. (TNA)
