Thailand raises cooking soybean oil price

BANGKOK, April 7 (TNA) - Thailand's controlled price of soybean cooking oil on the domestic market has now been raised by 9 baht per bottle due to higher material costs.

The Thai Ministry of Commerce announced that it has allowed local manufacturers of bottled soybean oil to increase the price by 9 baht per one-liter bottle, bringing the retail price of the soybean cooking oil up from 46 to 55 baht per liter.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said that it is necessary for the price hike of the soybean cooking oil, given the consistent increase of manufacturing costs after a long period of price ceiling imposed by the government, as most of the soybean oil is manufactured from imported soybean seeds whose price has risen.

The Thai premier noted that the Commerce Ministry will review adjustments of the price of soybean cooking oil over the next three months. (TNA)
