Flood victims in Thai South to get Bt2.9b state assistance

BANGKOK, April 7 (TNA) - People in southern Thailand--who have been affected by flood-related disaster--have secured the government's financial support of some 2.9 billion baht totally.
The Thai government's National Flood Relief Coordination Centre has announced that it is distributing the 2.9-billion-baht assistance to some 58,000 households in 10 flood-stricken provinces in the Thai South damaged by recent flash floods and landslides.
Thai Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Satit Wonghnongtaey, in his capacity as the head of the centre, said that the southern households damaged by the flood-related disaster for at least one week are entitled to initially receive a 5,000-baht financial assistance each from the government.
Satit noted that the disbursement of the government's financial support to the southern flood-stricken households is expected to be completed by April 10.
The current, but off-seasonal, round of severe inundations first hit the vast areas of Thailand's southern region on March 23, with 54 victims confirmed dead so far. (TNA)
