Belgian economic mission to hold business meetings in St Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, April 7 (Itar-Tass) -- The Belgian economic mission
led by Crown Prince Philippe will have a number of business meetings in
St. Petersburg to discuss prospects for cooperation.
More than 400 businessmen from 210 Belgian companies are accompanying
the crown prince on the trip.
In St. Petersburg, the delegation will continue its business programme
started in Moscow as part of the visit to Russia. Prince Philippe will
meet with St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko and Leningrad
Region Governor Valery Serdyukov in order to determine the most promising
areas for bilateral cooperation.
More specific aspects of joint work will be discussed at an investment
seminar to be attended by representatives of Russian companies interested
to invest in the Belgian economy, as well as at a seminar on transport and
logistics in the North-West of Russia.
Contracts between Russian and Belgian companies are expected to be
signed in the presence of Crown Prince Philippe after the discussions.
Special attention at the meetings will be paid to cooperation in the
field of pharmaceutics and port infrastructure. The prince will visit the
Ust-Luga seaport in the Leningrad region and meet with Russian specialists
and officials from the Belgian company DEME that has been building the
port since 2004.
Medical problems will be discussed at the meetings to be held by the
prince's wife, Princess Matilda, an active participant in and organiser of
charitable programmes.
She will attend a seminar on advanced Belgian technologies for saving
lives and the presentation of a new medical fund.
The cultural programme of the prince and princess includes a
sightseeing tour of the city, including the St. Peter and Paul Fortress.
Princess Matilda will visit the Hermitage.
In the evening, Prince Philippe will award Hermitage Director Mikhail
Piotrovsky the Order of the Crown in the rank of commodore. The Order of
the Crown is awarded for services rendered to the Belgian state,
especially for meritorious service in public employment. The Order of the
Crown is also awarded for distinguished artistic, literary or scientific
achievements, or for commercial or industrial services in Belgium or
Africa.
