China invest in Pakistan’s hydel, renewable energy projects
Islamabad, April 05, 2011 (PPI): China will invest in Pakistan’s hydel and renewable energy projects and join hands with WAPDA to develop large-scaled hydropower power projects, says Chairman of state-owned China Three Gorges Project Corporation (CTGPC), Cao Guanging.
In talks Tuesday with Water, Power & Privatization Minister Syed Naveed Qamar, he showed interest to set up manufacturing of wind power equipments. “We are looking for investment, cooperation for 1100MW Kohala, 7100MW Bunji, 720MW Karot hydropower projects.
“We are all set to start constructing 50MW wind power project in Jhampir Sindh and complete it next year. We also plan to install 2000MW wind power and 300MW solar power projects,” Cao stated.
Naveed Qamar thanked Chinese investment in hydel sector which will help generate cheap electricity. “We will extend full cooperation and facilitate in water, power, coal, renewable energy projects.” He asked Cao to invest in Basha dam, Thar coal power projects, large scale manufacturing of solar panels, wind energy turbines. CTGPC operates world’s largest hydropower station in China.
