Thai red-shirt protesters to rally on April 10 to remember last year’s clash

BANGKOK, April 6 (TNA) - Key figures of the red-clad United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will be organising activities on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of the April 10 clash with soldiers on Ratchadamnoen avenue Bangkok last year and promise they will run in the next general election if it happens.
UDD leaders including acting UDD chair Thida Thawornset as well as co-leaders Jatuporn Prompan and Natthawut Saikua held a press conference to announce the event. Natthawut said the event would be held on Ratchadamnoen avenue. It will include a religious ceremony for the blessing of people killed in the clash and several activities by sub-groups of the UDD.
Pasit Sakdanarong, former secretary to the Constitution Court president, will go on stage at 6pm to reveal secrets and head a ceremony for relatives to reminisce the dead at 8pm.
“After April 10, red shirt movements will be staged nationwide in line with their declaration. If there is an election in the country, red shirt people will run in it. If there is not, red shirt people will continue with their movements anyway,” Natthawut said.
He added that the UDD would reopen its training course similarly to its previous courses conducted before its mass rally last year. This year’s course will be more intensive, responding to current political situations and reflect the strategies and movements of the UDD.
The course is scheduled at a meeting room on the sixth floor of Imperial department store in Bangkok on April 9-10. Highlights will include a discussion on the UDD and Thai politics in which UDD members will brainstorm the UDD’s activities before and after the next election. The UDD will work out and announce its April 10 declaration. The upcoming training course will serve 1,500 UDD members. (TNA)
