India to ask B'desh to take action against HUJI terrorists

New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) India will press Bangladesh for
action against Bangladeshi nationals involved in terror acts
in this country and deportation of Northeast insurgents from
there during the Home Secretary-level talks between India and
Bangladesh begining in Dhaka on August 30.

During the two-day deliberations, New Delhi is likely to
give Dhaka evidence on the involvement of Bangladesh-based
outfits like HuJI and its nationals in terror acts,
including Hyderabad blasts, and seek action against them.

"India will also seek deportation of Indian militant
leaders like ULFA's Paresh Baruah, Anup Chetia and Arabinda
Rajkhowa as the outfit has been fomenting terror acts for a
long time," a Home Ministry official said.

Bangladesh Rifles' offer to carry out joint verification
with Border Security Force (B.S.F.) of insurgent camps in its
territory is likely to come up for discussion as India's
border guards had given a fresh list of 110 hideouts being
used for anti-India operations.

Smuggling of arms, ammunition and fake Indian currency
along the porus Indo-Bangla border and ways to tackle such
crimes will also be discussed at the meeting.

The Indian delegation, led by Union Home Secretary
Madhukar Gupta, will also raise issues like illegal
immigration and trafficking of narcotics. The Bangladeshi
delegation will be headed by Home Secretary Mohd Abdul Karim.

"The meeting is expected to discuss various security-
related issues, border management as well as ways to
enhance cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of
both sides," the official said.

The issue of completion of fencing along the 4,095 km
border is also likely to come up at the meeting as it could
not be completed due to Bangladesh's objection to construction
activities within 150 yards of the international border.

The last Home Secretary level talks between India and
Bangladesh was held in New Delhi on August 2-3, 2007.

These meetings are part of the institutional mechanism
set up in 1993 to resolve various issues of mutual concern.

Apart from the Home Secretary level talks, DG level talks
between BSF and BDR are held twice in a year. The last such
talks were held in Dhaka on August 20-25 last.

After the last Home Secretary level talks, the mechanism
of the Joint Working Group at the level of Joint Secretary has
been revived. The meeting of this group was held in New Delhi
on May 28-29, 2008.

During the BSF-BDR talks, the Indian border force had
given a list of 110 places/premises in Bangladesh where the
insurgent groups have set up bases or training camps. However,
Dhaka denies there is any base of an Indian insurgent group
there.

The B.S.F. has also given a list of 263 criminals,
including top ULFA leaders, to BDR while the Bangladeshi side
has given to BSF a list of 1,464 wanted criminals of that
country. PTI
