Haze hits Thai North again

LAMPANG, April 6 (TNA) - Weather conditions in Thailand’s northern provinces have become a concern due to the high level of smoke being emitted from forest fires and open-air-burning, says Anusorn Kaewkangwan, director general of Lampang’s provincial office of disaster prevention and mitigation.
Anusorn noted that the level of particulate matter (PM) in some provinces was measured above the standard level of 120 microgrammes, which are harmful to people staying outdoors.
Anusorn said the PM level varies from one province to another with the highest being measured at 156.5 microgrammes in Chiang Rai, followed by 158.4 microgrammes in Mae Hong Son, and 128 microgrammes in Lampang.
Meanwhile, the office has ordered local authorities in Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, and Mae Hong Son, to closely monitor the situation and urgently address the issue of forest fires, while local communities have been urged to avoid burning activities. (TNA)
