Radiation background on Russia's Sakhalin within norm

VLADIVOSTOK, April 6 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's Far Eastern Sakhalin
region reports no increases in the radiation background on Tuesday weeks
after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.
The Sakhalin emergencies administration reported that the radiation
background in the area was within five to 15 microroentgen per hour, which
is below the permissible level of 30 microroentgen. No deviations from the
norm have been reported in either of the region's districts, including on
the Kuril Islands.
The situation is constantly monitored by 99 radiation control stations
on land, at sea and in the air. The crisis management centre of the
Sakhalin region receives data on the radiation background every two hours.
No radiation threat is forecasted in the Sakhalin region and on the
Kuril Islands. There is no threat for the local population.
