Int'l energy coop'n to be discussed in Moscow Wed

MOSCOW, April 6 (Itar-Tass) - The IX Moscow international energy forum
(MIEF) on the theme of "The Fuel and Energy Sector (FES) of Russia in the
21st Century" opens here on Wednesday.
Organizers say participants in the forum are mainly "to discuss new
tendencies in international energy-related cooperation and prospects for
refinement of its internaional-legal basis which, in its turn, will entail
the introduction of innovative technologies".
The following subjects will be brought up for discussion: "The Factor
of Russia in World Energy System", "Foreign Investments in FES of Russia",
and "Methods of Forecasting the Development of World and Russian Energy
Sectors".
The principal purpose of the forum, an organizing committee official
pointed out, is "to promote global energy-related dialogue and renew the
legal basis for international energy cooperation".
Fifteen conferences of the forum, roundtable meetings and thematic
sessions are to take place at the Manege exhibition center and at MGIMO
diplomatic university within a space of four days. A tradiitonal
exhibition will be also held with the following sections: "Alternative
Energy Sources", "Reprocessing of Greenhouse Gases", "The Eastern Vector
of Energy Policy", and "Russian Energy Sector Personnel Policy".
The forum will be attended by Russian Minister of Energy Sergei
Shmatko, executives of major energy companies of Russia, and leading world
experts on energy.
The MIEF is held under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Energy,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a number of international
organizations.
