Chinese firm wins contract to build 500 MW power station in Basra
Basra (NINA) – A Chinese firm won, in principle, a contract to build a 500 MW power generation station in Basra.
Electricity Undersecretary, Salam Qazaz, told NINA on Tuesday, Apr. 5, "Opening bids to construct Najibiya power Station, north of Basra have shown that the Chinese company CMC has won the bid to construct the station in 17 months."
He added, "Four international companies bided to win the contract, they are the Chinese CMC at the cost of $ 204.380 million, the Korean Hyundai at the cost of $ 240 million, the German YBB at the cost of $ 299.818 millions and the Turkish Inka at the cost of $ 282.275 million"
Chairman of Basra Provincial Council, Jabar Ameen Jabir, said that in 17 months time, the new power station will add 500 MW to the province's power supply.
Last week, the government of Basra province concluded a contract with a firm from the UAE to construct a power generation station with the capacity of150 MW.
