Delegation of OSCE ambassadors arrives in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, April 5 (Itar-Tass) -- OSCE is an important partner of
Tajikistan on the international arena, President Emomali Rakhmon of
Tajikistan said receiving at his city residence a delegation of OSCE
ambassadors headed by incumbent chairman of the organization, Foreign
Minister of Lithuania Audronius Azubalis. The delegation arrived in
Dushanbe within the framework of its Central Asian tour.
"We consider OSCE to be our partner on the international arena and
strive to make our relations within the framework of the organization
develop on long-term and mutually advantageous basis," Rakhmon stressed.
As the presidential press service reported, "the sides expressed
satisfaction with the level of relations between Tajikistan and OSCE which develop in three directions - - political, economic, ecological and humanitarian."
Issues of jointly fighting terrorism, extremism and illegal drug
trafficking, strengthening of the border with Afghanistan, as well as the necessity of clearing anti-personnel mines in the republic's border regions and its eastern region (the epicentre of the civil war in the republic in 1992-1997) as soon as possible were also in the focus of attention of the talks.
"The OSCE ambassadors highly assessed the role of Tajikistan in
strengthening peace and stability in the region, in particular, efforts of the Tajik authorities to restore Afghanistan's economy and establish peace in this country," a representative of the press service said.
During the four-day visit, the OSCE ambassadors will visit the High Border-Guard School in Dushanbe reconstructed with the organization's financial assistance and one of the sections of the Tajik-Afghan border in the area of the check-point Lower Pyandzh where one of OSCE projects on strengthening the border is being carried out. Within the framework of cooperation between Tajikistan and OSCE, a memorandum on rendering aid to reform the Tajik Interior Ministry will be signed. On April 7, the OSCE ambassadors will depart for Bishkek.
