Demand for Thai rubber remains strong

CHANTABURI, April 5 (TNA) - Overseas demand for Thai rubber exports has remained strong, particularly from China, which has been the largest importer of Thai rubber produce.

Perk Lertwangpong, chief of rubber plantation cooperatives in Thailand's eastern Chantaburi Province, told reporters on Tuesday about the positive prospect for Thai rubber exports, insisting that current setbacks in the Thai South are unlikely to have any serious impact on Thai rubber produce and prices.

Perk acknowledged that rubber supply from Thailand's eastern and northeastern regions would meet overseas demand although the ongoing floods would delay rubber produce from the country's southern region by about one month, reducing Thailand's overall rubber supply in mid 2011 by more than 60,000 tonnes, or over 20 per cent, from its normal production level of more than 300,000 tonnes per month.

Perk added that as early rubber supply from Thailand's eastern and northeastern region could offset the delayed rubber produce from the flood-stricken South, the prices of Thai rubber products would not surge, but would remain stable.

According to the chief of Chantaburi's rubber plantation cooperatives, South Korea and Japan have also become major markets for Thai rubber exports, along with the vast Chinese market. (TNA)
