Politicians blame rulers for growing poverty, demand slashing oil prices
Karachi, April 04, 2011 (PPI): Demanding of the government to slash fuel and other commodities’ prices at the earliest, leaders of various political parties harshly criticized the government of burying the public alive.
They were speaking at an ‘All Parties’ Conference (APC)’ on ‘Inflation and its dire affects on the public’ organized by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter at Idara Noor-e-Haq, here Sunday evening.
They also accused the provincial government of on failing to protect traders from extortion. They said Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza should resign from their posts as they have failed to deliver the goods.
Leaders who addressed the APC included Birjees Ahmed (Naib Ameer JI Karachi), Aslam Ghauri (JUI-F), Mehfooz Yar Khan (Awami Muslim League), Basharat Mirza (PDP), Dr. Siddiq Rathore (JUP), Prof. Mehmood-ul Hasan (Jamat-ud-Dawa) and others.
Addressing the gathering, JI Karachi Amir Muhammad Hussain Mehanti said inflation is constantly on the rise since Pakistan Peoples’ Party took over the reins and added that poverty, unemployment and unrest have also been the order of the day. He also said petrol, diesel and gas tariffs have soared in the present regime as the centre has to its discredit of experiencing the highest ever prices of commodities.
Accusing government of its impure intentions, Mehanti said government is suppressing the poor class by imposing unbearable taxes. Furthermore he flayed the authorities on their failure to curb extortions and extended full support to the business fraternity on their stance against extortionists.
Giving his viewpoint on the occasion, Birjees Ahmed said, to find a solution to the problems, all parties will have to pool in their resources.
A resolution was presented on the occasion, by JI’s Muslim Pervez, which was unanimously accepted by APC.
