Bangkok Metropolitan Administration launches helmet-wearing campaign

BANGKOK, April 5 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the “Don’t Drive Drunk” Foundation, to mark 2011 as a year for the helmet-wearing campaign aimed at Thai students.
BMA Deputy Governor Teerachon Manomaipiboon and Taya Teepsuwan met with the foundation's Secretary Taejing Siripanich on Tuesday, to also distribute crash helmets to students in Bangkok.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among students about the mandatory use of standardised motorbike helmets, to prevent and reduce road accidents. The target is to have all Thai students who drive or ride motorbikes to wear helmets by the end of this year.
Statistics show over one hundred thousand Thai students travel with their parents on motorbikes, but only 7 percent of them wear a helmet. (TNA)
