Thai Ministry of Finance locked out by protesters

BANGKOK, April 5 (TNA) - Hundreds of Farmers' Reconstruction Fund members Tuesday morning blocked off the Thai Ministry of Finance’s main entrance, preventing ministry staff from accessing the buildings and causing severe traffic problems on Phra Ram 6 Road and Soi Ari. The protesters have been camping outside the ministry for the past 3 days.
They are demanding further government assistance for their debt-related problems. They are not satisfied with the government’s offer to let state-owned banks take care of the outstanding debts.
Meanwhile, Worrawut Kamolwitthayanont, chairman of the umbrella group of vendors for the two and three digit lottery operation, along with vendor representatives, submitted a letter to Deputy Minister of Finance Pradit Pataraprasit calling for justice from the MOF, after the Revenue Department announced plans to tax the lottery operations.
He insisted lottery vendors have always complied with government policy but ended up being victims of the dispute.
Thousands of vendors are being affected by the government’s decision, and the government should stop plans to 'unfairly' collect tax from them, he said. (TNA)
