ANWAR MUST CONTRIBUTE TO DEMOCRATIC PRACTICE TOO, SAYS M'SIAN DPM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Najib Razak Thursday expressed the hope that People's Justice Party (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) (PKR) advisor Anwar Ibrahim, who is now the Permatang Pauh MP, will also contribute to the democratic practice in the country.

"As the opposition leader, we hope that he will make good contribution to
the democratic process and help us in our efforts to further develop our
country," the deputy prime minister said when asked to comment on Anwar's
appointment as opposition leader in the Lower House of Parliament (Dewan
Rakyat).

Anwar, 61, was sworn-in as Permatang Pauh MP before Dewan Speaker Pandikar
Amin Mulia and appointed opposition leader Thursday.

Najib also said that a post-mortem would be conducted soon on the
Permatang
Pauh by-election which concluded on Tuesday.

"We will scrutinise the attitude of voters in Permatang Pauh."

Asked whether Anwar's re-emergence in the political arena would affect the
Umno elections in December, he said: "No,it has nothing to do with the Umno
elections."
