M'SIAN PM RECEIVES FORMER INDIAN PRESIDENT

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad
Badawi received a call from India's former president, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, at the his office in the Parliament building here Thursday.

Dr Abdul Kalam, who is on a four-day visit to Malaysia, is scheduled to
speak at the Khazanah Global Lectures 2008 Thursday night.

He will visit Penang on Saturday where he will be conferred an
honorary
doctorate by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and will visit the Heritage Walk
before departure.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (English: University of Science, Malaysia,
acronym: USM) is a public university with a main campus in northern
Penang-state, Malaysia.

Dr. Abdul Kalam, a scientist, is affectionately known as "Missile Man of
India" for his vast contribution in developing India's first indigeneous
satellite launch vehicle SLV-III, and the Integrated Guided Missile Development
Programme -- India's most successful military research task to date.

He was conferred India's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, in
1997.

He served as India's 11th president from July 2002 to July 2007.
