Iranian athletes competing in IBSA World Championships and Games

TEHRAN, Apr. 4 (MNA) -- Iranian athletes have taken part in the 4th International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Championships and Games which got underway on Friday in Antalya, Turkey.

A total of 1,200 athletes from over 70 countries are participating in the event which is the biggest such tournament ever.

In it visually impaired athletes compete in eight sport fields including Athletics, Chess, Futsal (football) B1, Futsal (football) B2/B3, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting and Swimming.

50 Iranian athletes have participated in the championship. The event is the qualifiers for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

The 4th IBSA World Championships and Games Antalya 2011 is the follow up of previous successful events held in Madrid, Spain (1998), Quebec, Canada (2003) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (2007).
