Empowering ASEAN youths to take action on global warming

NAKHON PATHOM, April 2 (TNA) - Youth representatives from 10 ASEAN nations gathered in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand's central region, this week to address environmental issues and brainstorm action plans to help prevent global warming.

Thailand welcomed nearly 30 youth representatives to the seminar on “Empowering ASEAN Youth to Take Action on Global Warming”. The three-day forum served as a platform for 40 participants, including 10 youth observers from Thailand, to share knowledge and ideas as well as explore possible solutions for environmental problems in ASEAN.

The event was organized by the Office Welfare Promotion, Protection and Empowerment of Vulnerable Groups of Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. It was also sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

At the end of the program on Friday, youth representatives participated in a tree-planting activity, while a joint statement was also adopted to address the commitment in fighting against global warming. They also initiated action plans and project activities in line with government policies and promised to play their roles of leaders or followers when participating in potential partnerships to take action on global warming issues when they return to their home countries.

The forum brought together 40 youth representatives aged between 18 and 25 years old from member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). (TNA)
