Thailand's inflation in March 2011 rises at 3.14%

BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Commerce reported on Friday that Thailand's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose to 100.49 in March 2011, a 3.14 per-cent year increase, reflecting the stable, but growing Thai economy over the past year.

According to the ministry's projection, Thailand's inflation is likely to stand around 3.2-3.7 per cent on average this year--based on an assumption that world crude oil prices will be about 78-88 US dollars a barrel and the Thai currency will move around 28-33 baht against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, Yanyong Puangrat, Permanent Secretary for Commerce acknowledged that factors affecting Thailand's inflation include world oil prices, domestic and international political developments, natural disasters and a five-percent salary hike for Thai government and state enterprise officials.
