BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Public Health reported on Friday that the death toll from flooding in Thailand's southern region has risen to 25 so far.
Thai Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said that of the total flood fatalities, six of them were in Surat Thani, two in Phatthalung, 11 in Nakhon Si Thammarat and six others in Krabi.
Jurin revealed that the severe inundations have also affected more than 100 hospitals, with Ta Sala Hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Ta Rong Chang Hospital in Surat Thani being the hardest hit.
According to the Thai health minister, the heavy floods have battered 82 districts of eight southern Thai provinces, including Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Surat Thani, Krabi, Trang, Phangnga, Chumphon and Songkhla.
The Thai minister said that his ministry's mobile teams of doctors and psychiatrists had made nearly 140 trips to treat almost 8,500 people in flood-stricken areas in the Thai South, and that most patients have suffered from athletes’ foot and respiratory illnesses.
Meanwhile, Dr. Paijit Warachit, Permanent Secretary for Public Health Ministry, acknowledged that he has ordered 12 teams of doctors from the central region to assist flood victims in difficultly-accessible areas in the Thai South. (TNA)
