LAHORE, March 31, 2011 (PPI): Qazi Humayun Fareed Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh in Punjab and his wife Begum Irshad Humayun hosted a reception on the occasion of National Day of Bangladesh here on Thursday.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner in Pakistan H.E Suhrab Hossain and his wife Rawsanara Hossain were also present, while Governor Punjab Latif Khosa, Minister for Food Punjab Ch. Abdul Ghafoor, senior civil servants, politicians, diplomats and renowned businessmen were also present in reception.

Bangladesh High Commissioner in Pakistan H.E Suhrab Hossain congratulated Qazi Humayun Fareed for organizing this event for the first time in Lahore as it will encourage business community in Punjab to visit Bangladesh to explore the possibilities of enhancement of trade and investment and also invite Bangladeshi business community to explore similar possibilities in Pakistan. He said as evident from the support of the Bangladeshi people to the Pakistani Cricket Team during their recent match with West Indies at Shere Bangla National Stadium Mirpur, Dhaka, confirming their desire to have more interaction with the people of Pakistan, so this should be encouraged by both the governments.

Qazi Humayun Fareed during his address said that Bangladesh has made reasonable progress during last 40 years. He said there were vast opportunities for Pakistani traders to invest in yarn and garments sectors. The Grameen Bank was played a revolutionary role in rural areas through micro loans among the women and Pakistan should also adopt this model to promote the technical skill in women, which is more than half of our total population. When women in rural areas also start earning small amounts the incentive to shift to bigger cities diminishes. We should ensure provision of equal income generation resources to flung areas also, Qazi added.

He said we could also learn from Bangladesh about their success in population control. At the time of independence Bangladesh’s population was higher than Pakistan but as of today their population is less than Pakistan. He said textile, fabric manufacturing and garment sectors were offering Pakistani industrialists facilities for enhancement their trade and manufacturing opportunities in Bangladesh as Bangladesh Garments Export have reason to tremendous heights so Pakistani Industrialists should take advantage of their knowledge and other expertise in garments export. Pakistani industrialists should avail this opportunity.

Qazi Humayun Fareed said that he was ready to provide all facilities for traders, industrialists and investors for enhancement of trade relations between two countries with support of H.E Suhrab Hossain, the High Commissioner.
