SRIWIJAYA AIR PLANE SLIPS AFTER LANDING, HITS TWO PEOPLE

Jambi, Aug 27 (ANTARA) - A Sriwijaya Air plane with 100 passengers on board slipped off the runway of Jambi's Sultan Thaha airport, ran over a piece of farmland where it hit a farmer and his child on Wednesday.

The farmer and his child who had yet to be identified were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital but nobody on the plane was hurt.
One of the passengers evacuated from the plane said the aircraft left Jakarta at 15:45 and was to arrive in Jambi at 16:45.
"The plane approached Jambi's airport smoothly but moments after landing, its wheels slipped and the plane strayed from the landing strip over a distance of about 300 meters, coming to a stop after rolling through a local resident's vegetable patch at the airfield's edge," the passenger, Abdul Hakim (35), said.
The short wing at the plane's rear end was damaged.
A nurse at the emergency unit of Asia Medika Hospital where the injured farmer and his child were being treated was unable to give reporters more information on the victims' conditions.
"I am sorry, I cannot yet tell you anything, the situation is still confusing," Yuni, the nurse, said.
