NRMA to govt: follow Obama on oil imports
AAP-April,1-The federal government is facing calls to follow US President Barack Obama's lead and reduce the country's dependence on imported oil.
Mr Obama has set an ambitious goal to cut US oil imports by one-third by 2025.
The NRMA is calling on the federal and state governments to follow in his footsteps.
Local NRMA Director Alan Evans says within ten years four of every five litres of petrol Australians put in their cars will be from some of the most politically unstable corners of the world.
"The government needs to act now to lessen our dependence on imported oil and increase research and development into alternative fuels and technologies," Mr Evans said.
"The federal government and the opposition need to show real leadership on this critical issue for our economic sustainability and future security."
