Koreans living in Japan help overcoming quake aftermath - KCNA
PYONGYANG, April 1 (Itar-Tass) - Koreans living in Japan "liquidate
the aftermath of a powerful earthquake and tsunami shoulder to shoulder
with citizens of that country," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA)
reported on Friday.
According to the news agency, right after the natural disaster, the
central committee of the League of Koreans in Japan (Choren) "took
emergency measures to rescue compatriots in the regions hit by the
calamity".
The assistance was rendered not only to Korean nationals, but also to
Japanese finding themselves in the quake and tsunami-hit zones, the news
agency said.
At the initiative of Choren, trucks were sent there with medicines,
foodstuffs and articles of prime necessity, the news agency stressed.
Several days ago, North Korean leader Kim Jong Il transferred 500,000
dollars to the aid fund for Koreans, who have suffered as a result of the
quake and tsunami in Japan. The North Korean Red Cross Committee sent
100,000 dollars to the Japanese Red Cross Committee.
North Korea's Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's
Assembly Kin Yong-nam sent a message to the leadership of Choren,
expressing condolences in connection with the death of Korean nationals in
Japan.
He also expressed confidence that all Choren organizations will
shortly manage to liquidate the aftermaths of the natural calamity,
"demonstrating uncrushable will and making joint efforts".
North Korea has no diplomatic relations with Japan.
