Flood fatalities in Thai South rise to 21

BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Interior's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Friday that death toll from inundations and related incidents, namely flash floods and landslides, in Thailand's southern region over the past week has now been confirmed at 21, with several others still missing.

The department said in its updated report that out the total flood-related fatalities, nine were in Nakhon Si Thammarat, six in Krabi, four in Surat Thani and two in Phatthalung, and that other 181 people have suffered from injuries and several others have remained missing.

According to the official report, southern Thai provinces hit by the current, but off-seasonal, round of heavy floods include Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Surat Thani, Trang, Chumphon, Songkhla, Krabi and Phangnga, affecting nearly one million people and damaging over 732,600 rai of farmlands so far.
