Hakeem expresses keenness to Assad for stability in Syria

Baghdad (NINA) – Leader of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC), Ammar al-Hakeem, made a phone call on Thursday afternoon, Mar. 31, to Syria's President, Bashar al-Assad, during which he expressed keenness on Syria's stability and security, as well as to respond to the Syrian peoples' legitimate demands.

A statement by the SIIC said, "In the call, Hakeem wished for recent political reforms taken by President Assad be an encouraging factor to realize the Syrians' expectations and to consolidate the country's national unity, as well as keeping Syria the active element in the Arab and region's system."

It added, "President Assad praised Hakeem's stance, thanking him for his concern over Syria well being and asserting his keenness to consolidate relations between the people of Iraq and Syria."
