Lami announces the release of Al Jazeera crew in Libya

Baghdad (NINA) – Chairman of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Mouayad Al Lami, announced that Al Jazeera crew detained in Libya was released today morning, Lami stated to NINA.

He said he received phone call from Ashur Al Tilisi, Chairman of the Libyan Journalists Syndicate, informing him of the release of the crew which was detained by Libyan authorities during the recent events in Libya.

Lami, member of International Journalists Federation, added that he “made a phone call with Ammar Al Hamdan, one of the released Al Jazeera crew, immediately after their release,” clarifying that “the Iraqi Syndicate, as member of the executive Committee of the IJF is ethically and professionally committed to defend all journalists.”

Al Jazeera Satellite Channel’s crew, two correspondents and two cameramen, was detained in Libya during the recent events.

President of the IJF asked Lami, member of executive committee of the federation, to tackle the issue through contacting the Libyan Journalists Syndicate Chairman and managers of Libyan media outlets to release the crew which was detained for almost 20 days, especially that earlier efforts succeeded in releasing the Iraqi detained journalist Ghaith Abdul Ahad, Guardian correspondent.
