Primorye to produce 200,000 cars annually in 5 years - governor
VLADIVOSTOK, March 31 (Itar-Tass) - The Primorye Territory will
assemble about 200,000 cars a year in five years from now, the Territory's
Governor, Sergei Darkin, told a news conference on Thursday.
According to the governor, such cars makers as Mazda, Toyota and the
alliance Renault-Nissan-Avtovaz are considering the possibility of opening
car assembly plants in the territory. Toyota and Sollers companies have
already inked an agreement on opening the Russian-Japanese enterprise
Sollers-Bussan to produce outlanders Land Cruiser Prado. The new venture
will be opened in the area of the car production plant Sollers-Far East in
Vladivostok and will use the needed infrastructure including the pier and
track. The first automobile is expected to roll off the production line in
the spring of 2012.
The Mazda Company and alliance Renault-Nissan have also proposed a car
assembly plant in the Primorye Territory. The governor said, "the Ministry
of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Regional Development and Ministry of
Economic Development have already made a decision to support Mazda's
project."
The Mazda Company plans to bring annual production to 30,000 cars at
the first phase and create 700-1,000 jobs. The alliance
Renault-Nissan-Avtovaz considers several sites for the production of cars
in Vladivostok, Slavyanka, Ussuriisk and Arsenyev on the basis of the
existing buildings and infrastructures.
The car making plant Sollers-Far East has been working in Vladivostok
for a second year. It produces Ssangyong offroaders of various models and
modifications. About 13,000 models of Rexton, Kyron, Action and Action
Sport were released in 2010. This year the enterprise plans to produce
25,000 such cars.
