THAI resumes flights to Samui Island

BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, resumed its flights to Samui Airport in Thailand's southern Surat Thani Province on Thursday when the airport was reopened--following its temporary closure forced by heavy downpours earlier.

THAI President Piyasvasti Amranand said that the national airline began operating three flights to Samui Airport on Thursday, taking some 600 passengers stranded on the flood-hit island to their destinations.

The THAI top executive, however, warned passengers to keep themselves updated on the situation in the southern Thai flood-hit region, suggesting those seeking more information to call the THAI Contact Centre at 02-356-1111, 24 hours, or visit the THAI website at [www.thaiairways.com].

Meanwhile, the Thai Ministry of Interior's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that confirmed death toll from the flooding in Thailand's southern region has climbed to 13, with more than 842,300 people in over 4,000 villages in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Surat Thani, Trang, Chumphon, Songkhla, Krabi, and Phang-nga affected.
