Kyrgyz pres sacks prosecutor-general for violations in work

BISHKEK, March 31 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva
signed a decree on Thursday on releasing of his post republican
Prosecutor-General Kubatbek Baibolov, Itar-Tass learnt at the press
service of the Kyrgyz president.
According to press service officers, Otunbayeva appointed with the
same decree her representative at the parliament and former justice
minister Aida Salyanova.
The press service called one of reasons for sacking Baibolov the
situation around one of the largest operators of cell communications -
Megacom Company. Scandals, connected with the establishment of its real owners, have been continuing nearly for a year. Claims for this are put forth by several firms at a time, including those calling themselves Russian, Kazakh, Ukrainian and Georgian companies.
The legislature even set up a special commission to hammer out
recommendations on this problem. Earlier, the Kyrgyz authorities decided to nationalise 49 percent of Megacom shares, since they belonged to the son of former President Kurmanbek Bakiev who fled the country in the spring of 2010. However, authorities failed to find out who owned the control interest in the company.
"The stay of Baibolov at the post of the country's prosecutor-general has become impossible due to moral and ethical considerations," the presidential press service noted. According to the data of the press service, family members of already the former prosecutor-general carried out deals on selling and purchasing real estate with firms, suspected of withdrawing money from Megacom.
"Besides, attempts continue to switch over this question into the
sphere of relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan," the press service
emphasised, "to present the criminal case as an unfriendly act against our strategic partner."
Therefore, the present circumstances need "all-round and objective
examination of the case in essence, a thorough and unbiased investigation of every fact". The Kyrgyz committee for national security is now engaged in investigating the Megacom case.
