Military beefs-up rescue efforts for victims in Thai south

BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - The Thai military has reaffirmed its commitment to search for the survivors of recent landslides and floods in the southern resort province of Krabi.

General Prayuth Chan-ocha, the Thai Army Chief, reiterated these sentiments before departing for his visit to Krabi’s Khao Panom District, which has been battered by floods and landslides over the past week, noting that Their Majesties King Bhumibol Aduladej and Queen Sirikit have both expressed their sorrow over the severity of both disasters.

General Prayuth revealed that the military has so far delivered up to 10,000 aid packages and mobile medical units to the affected areas, adding that he has personally called on the commander of the fourth army to support relief operations alongside rescue teams, in part by providing 15 search dogs.

Meanwhile, the army chief is encouraging the public to make further contributions, such as financial donations, flashlights, clothing and other necessities. (TNA)
