Radiation background in Primorsky Krai within norm-EMERCOM
VLADIVOSTOK, March 31 (Itar-Tass) - The radiation background in the
Primorsky Territory of Russia remains within norm. The press service of
the regional department of the Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM)
told Itar-Tass that as of at 09:00 local time (02:00 MSK) its level was 14
micro-roentgens per hour at a rate for the Primorsky Territory of 30
micro-roentgens per hour.
According to the territorial hydrometeorology centre, as of 29-30
March, traces of iodine-131 is safe for humans concentration are still
found in daily samples of aerosols. In the most recent samples its content
is 5.7 times less than on March 26, when traces of iodine-131 were
detected for the first time over the Primorsky Territory.
A total of 29 monitoring spots are set in open terrain for controlling
the gamma radiation intensity in the Primorsky Territory. Samples are
being taken for analysis of water, food, construction materials, timber
and to determine the natural background radiation. Since March 11, 2011, a
total of more than 16 thousand measurements of natural background
radiation were taken. Five samples of rainfall and 10 water samples from
the Artemovskoye, Bogatinskoye and Pionerskoye reservoirs have been
studied. No food and food raw materials have been delivered since March
11, 2011 to the Primorsky Territory from Japan. All the radiation
measurements results do not exceed the norm.
