Libya FM arrives in Britain saying he resigns
LONDON, March 31 (Itar-Tass) - Libyan Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa on Wednesday arrived in Britain where stated that he resigns from his post and breaks with the regime of Muammar Gaddafi, a Foreign Office spokesman said on Thursday.
"We can confirm that Moussa Koussa arrived at Farnborough Airport on 30 March from Tunisia. He travelled here under his own free will. He has told us he is resigning his post," a Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement. "Koussa is one of the most senior figures in Gaddafi's government and his role was to represent the regime internationally - something that he is no longer willing to do," the spokesman said.
He urged officials of the government of Muammar Qaddafi and the Libyan leader's entourage to follow the example of the foreign minister.
The British Foreign Office spokesman has so far not commented on media reports that Koussa is seeking refuge in Britain.
Moussa Kousa in 1994-2009 was the head of Libyan intelligence. In 2009 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Kusa is one of the
"architects" of the course for normalisation of relations between Libya and the West. The relations were restored in 2004 after the Gaddafi regime in late 2003 declared the abandonment of the programmes to build nuclear and chemical weapons.
