Red Cross sends aid packages to flood-hit Southern Thailand

BANGKOK, March 30 (TNA) - Relief supplies from the Thai Red Cross Society have been airlifted to flood-hit areas in southern Thailand, where heavy downpours have seen the region inundated with deep floods for almost a week.
Up to 3,000 mobile kitchen-sets and catering staff, including five additional barges, reached Surat Thani’s Wing 7 Air Base early Wednesday morning, delivered by a Royal Thai Air Force C-130 aircraft. For further support, a huge 100 million baht reserve has been set up to finance further needed supplies.
Lieutenant General Dr. Amnaj Bali, Director of the Thai Red Cross Society’s Relief and Civil Protection Office, said another 10,000 aid packages were also ready for dispatch if needed.
Dr. Amnaj revealed that the first batch of 4,000 aid packages have already reached flood-hit provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Surat Thani and Phatthalung, and that he expects aid to reach other affected areas in Chumporn and Trang too, despite severe difficulties being experienced due to transport suspensions in the region.
In addition, the director said that donations are now welcome through the society's Siam Commercial Bank account, No. 045-304190-6. In particular, he added, the provision of blankets, boots, household medicines, mobile toilets, as well as instant noodles and canned food are in need. (TNA)
