Sarkozy goes to PRC to discuss reform of int'l monetary syst
PARIS (Itar-Tass) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy leaves
for China on Wednesday for a two-day working visit as head of the country
that currently presides over the Group of Twenty (G-20).
The programme for the first day of the visit provides for talks with
President Hu Jintao of the People's Republic of China. According to
unofficial data, an issue concerning the situation in Libya may be raised
during the upcoming meeting: China is strongly critical of the actions of
the international coaliton, of which precisely France is one of the most
active participants.
During the second day of the visit, the French President is to travel
to Nanjing to attend a G-20 international colloquium relating to a reform
of the international monetary system.
French political observers recall that to work out and effect a
reform of the monetary system, as Sarkozy himself repeatedly emphasized,
is one of the principal goals of France's presidency in G-20. Sarkozy
presses, in particular, for achieving a better coordination of G-20 policy
in the field of setting foreign-exchange rates and creating currency
reserves.
Most participants in the Paris meeting -- Ministers and experts --
will also take part in the Nanjing international forum. Nicolas Sarkozy
has planned out a whole series of meetings with them. Dominique
Strauss-Kahn, IMF Managing Directors, and the chiefs of G-20 central banks
will also arrive in Nanjing.
