BANGKOK, March 29 (TNA) - The Thai government has ordered an emergency evacuation of its people residing in Talumpuk headland, stating that the flood situation there is as serious as what happened in 1988. In the meantime, seven southern Thai provinces have been declared as natural disaster zones.

The PM’s Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey, in his capacity as head of the government’s committee to help flood victims, said that flood situations in the South were as serious as what happened in 1988, and that it was the first time in Thai history that Southern Thai provinces are flooded in March.

So far, the provinces of Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Trang and Krabi have all been declared as disaster-stricken zones, he said.

Sathit added that the government has ordered an emergency evacuation of people residing in Talumpuk headland of Nakhon Si Thammarat, the most-worrying area, as there were reports of strong winds and waves in the area.
