Surat Thani battered by relentless flash floods

SURAT THANI, March 29 (TNA) - Thailand's southern resort Surat Thani has been ravaged by relentless flash floods running off from a highland national park, causing severe damage to affected areas with water levels reaching 2 meters. Surat Thani's disaster relief and mitigation office reported that the death toll in the province alone from the current flooding has climbed to four, with one missing; while thousands of households and farmlands have been affected.
Updated reports published on Tuesday said that flash floods from the Kaeng Krung National Park have continued striking areas in Surat Thani's Ta Chang and Pun Pin Districts, especially Ban Naluek in Maluan Sub-district on the border between the two districts, prompting local villagers to urgently wade out of their areas, as official assistance arrived.
Several other provinces in Thailand's southern region, namely Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Krabi and Phatthalung, have also been battered by the current off-seasonal round of heavy rain fall and flash floods. (TNA)
