Flood-hit schools in Thai south to be restored

BANGKOK, March 29 (TNA) - As many as 600 schools submerged by floodwaters in southern Thailand will be evaluated for restoration, says a Thai government official.
Dr. Chinnapat Bhumirat, secretary-general to the national Office for Basic Education Commission (OBEC), revealed the plans Tuesday afternoon, saying authorities are set to begin conducting damage assessments at the schools for flood impact, thus laying the groundwork for further restoration.
Dr. Chinnapat noted preliminary restoration costs for at least 600 schools in the area are expected to reach 163 million baht.
Meanwhile, the official said he believes students will not be affected by the floods due to the current summer holiday, but assured authorities will work quickly to return all areas to normal, to ensure all classes can proceed before the semester starts. (TNA)
