Thai Defence Minister doesn’t want third party to get involved in GBC

BANGKOK, March 29 (TNA) - Thai Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said he does not want a third-party country to get involved in the meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) of Thailand and Cambodia.

In response to the report that his Cambodian counterpart Tea Banh demands the next meeting of the Thai-Cambodian GBC take place in Indonesia, General Prawit said General Tea Banh had not discussed the issue with him yet. However, he said the meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) should happen first as there is currently no problem with the GBC.

General Prawit insisted that if Thailand and Cambodia were able to undertake their bilateral negotiation, they would have no need for a meeting in a third-party country.

In the meantime, the minister assured people of both countries can still visit each other, as border checkpoints have remain unclosed, and trading continuing in general. (TNA)
