Russian Diaspora in USA seeks to take part in modernizing Russia
WASHINGTON, March 29 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Diaspora in the United
States can take part in modernizing Russia and wants to do that. This was stated at round-table discussions on modernization of Russia, held in the US capital on Monday.
This bid is already being realized, although problems appear
sometimes. But they are actively solved by the Russian government and by ethnic Russians living in the USA on a permanent basis.
Yuri Zaitsev, the head of the Russian centre of culture and science in Washington, hosted discussions at the centre. The coordinating council of ethnic Russians in the USA organized the event.
Taking part in it were representatives of the Russian speaking society from different parts of the USA, as well as guests arriving from Moscow.
The director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's department for ties with compatriots living abroad, Alexander Chepurin, the director of the department for international integration of the Ministry of Education and Science, Igor Protsenko, the head of the education department of the Healthcare and Social Development Ministry, Vadim Yegorov and the director for humanitarian projects of ROSNANO corporation, Leonid Gozman, took part.
Discussions were heated and continued for at least five-and-a-half
hours. The Moscow guests informed the audience in detail about different state programs aimed at modernizing Russia and building innovation economy in the country.
Ethnic Russians living in the USA, for their part, voiced their ideas concerning possible forms of their contribution to modernizing Russia, spoke about possible obstacles to the strengthening of such cooperation.
Summing up the results of Monday discussions, Chepurin told Tass that the main aim of such meetings "is to inform about changes underway in Russia" to coordinate possibilities, realia and expectations of the interested parties.
He also reminded the interlocutor that quite recently a conference was held in Moscow, which brought together ethnic Russians from all over the globe. Plans are now to organize a similar event in Berlin, to bring together ethnic Russians living in Europe.
"One thing is clear - we see interest, a bid, and we must concretize cooperation plans, remove barriers, including legislative ones," he said. And another thing is clear, that only those projects must be taken that Russia needs, he added.
Chepurin said that such discussions are needed to understand whether the offered projects are innovative. He also said he was glad to see many people who like Russia and have a bid to cooperate.
