Deputy Speaker calls on UN to support IHEC
Baghdad (NINA) – First Deputy of Parliament Speaker, Qusay Al Suhail, called on United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq UNAMI to support the independence of Independent High Electoral Commission IHEC and other independent commissions, a statement issued by Suhail’s office mentioned.
It added “Suhail received at his office today a delegation from the constitutional support team, affiliated from UNAMI, headed by Jose Maria. Both sides discussed UN’s role in this field.”
The statement mentioned that the Iraqi official called on UN to have a bigger role, referring that the past stage witnessed accepted role of UNAMI, we want to develop this role.
He added “the UN can expand its role and horizons and support the institutional building of Iraq.”
