Russia, Kyrgyzstan seeks to prevent threats from Afghanistan
MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Kyrgyzstan are interested in
prevention of threats emanating from Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov said after the talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Ruslan Kazakbayev
on Monday.
At the same time he underlined that the Afghan authorities' position
on the impermissibility of civilian casualties during the operation of the
coalition forces in the country is reasonable. These demands should be
heard, Lavrov said.
"Unfortunately, terrorists in Afghanistan feel themselves easily, this
also concerns drug dealers. Our anti-terror and anti-drug cooperation with
Kyrgyzstan on the bilateral basis within the framework of the Collective
Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are
a part of common efforts to counteract these challenges," Lavrov said.
Kazakbayev said in turn the situation in Afghanistan affects the
region's security.
"We are concerned over the events that are taking place in
Afghanistan. This issue should be discussed within the framework of the
CSTO, we have the contact group there. We should develop a collective
approach," he said.
