PRESIDENT RECEIVES ANTARCTICA RESEARCHER
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj has received L.Dugerjav, the head of Mongolia's Association of Antarctica Research (MAAR).
L.Dugerjav has said the MAAR cooperates with Bulgarian scientists in frames of the 4-year European Union's project. "The project's term is to expire soon, so the Commission between the governments of Mongolia and Bulgaria has concluded that it is possible to extend the period," he has said.
"In Antartica, the Mongolians run mainly permafrost studies, because we know what the permafrost is, and our sharp weather made us strong" he has added.
This year, three Mongolian scientists are going to Antarctica, where, for the time being, there are scientists from some ten countries, he went on. The Mongolians want to camp on Livingston island.
If Mongolia joins the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, possibilities will open for our country to acquire shares from Antartica resources. As of present, 43 countries have ratified the convention, he has said and asked the State Head to pay attention to this matter.
L.Dugerjav has handed over the state flag of Mongolia, that was carried by him in 2007 to Antarctica, and invited the President to go to Antarctica. It has been "visited" by Presidents of 20 countries.
