Thai DPM dismisses rumours on pre-house dissolution coup

BANGKOK, March 28 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who is in charge of national security affairs, dismissed on Monday rumours that there would be a coup before a House dissolution, insisting that Thailand is on its way towards a new general election.

Suthep, who is also secretary-general of Thailand's ruling Democrat Party, said that there are no obscurities in the current political sphere, and that all parties are gearing up for the country's next election.

Suthep acknowledged that Thailand's political situation is now clearer than it has been and many parties hold the same view that domestic political problems have eased. Therefore, he is confident that Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva can dissolve the House of Representatives in the coming months, as planned, to pave the way for the next national poll.

The Thai deputy premier urged local people to ignore rumours on a coup before the planned House dissolution or on any attempt to block proceedings of the next election, affirming that there will not be a coup because the Thai military has insisted to maintain democracy. (TNA)
