Aviation services at Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport expected to resume later this week

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, March 28 (TNA) - Aviation services at the flood-hit Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport in Thailand's southern region are expected to resume later this week, as the country's Department of Civil Aviation has announced that it expects the airport lighting system should be fully fixed within the next couple of days.
The department's deputy director-general, Seri Chitsopa, said on Monday when he was inspecting the Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport that the level of flooding water on roads surrounding the airport and at its entrances had been receding. The flooding water at the airport's main runways and adjacent areas was measured some 50 centimeters deep on Sunday.
Seri acknowledged despite the receding water-level, his department will have to inspect damages and remove all leavings blocking the airport’s runway and taxiway.
Seri said that his department will also have to inspect and fix damage to the lighting system which signals aircrafts landing on and taking off the airport, and that the work will take some 2-3 days to complete.
All flights using the Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport have been temporarily suspended due to its inundated runways and damage to the lighting system. (TNA)
