Moldova FM to discuss bilateral ties, Dniester peace process in RF
CHISINAU, March 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and
Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca will
arrive on a two-day working visit in Moscow to discuss a broad range of
issues related to the current state and prospects of bilateral relations.
The sides are to focus on the Dniester peace process, the press service of
the Moldovan Foreign Ministry reported on Sunday. Leanca is to meet with
his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. The Moldovan foreign minister is
also to meet with several Russian political experts and officials.
Leanca's visit is particularly important in view of the 10th
anniversary of the treaty on friendship and cooperation between the
countries, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander
Lukashevich told a press briefing earlier in Moscow. The Russian Foreign
Ministry was satisfied that the coalition formed in the Moldovan
parliament confirmed the course for strategic partnership with Russia.
"Russia gives a priority to the support to Moldova in building a
sovereign, democratic, legal and neutral country," Lukashevich said. He
also noted that the sides are to discuss ways for making the CIS
integration cooperation more efficient and other issues. The countries are
to sign a schedule of the consultations between the Foreign Ministries in
2011.
The spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the current
situation in the Dniester peace process should be studied thoroughly.
"Russia believes that the leaders of the parties to the conflict should
agree on a viable settlement of complicated problems on an equal basis,"
Lukashevich noted.
"The politicians from Chisinau and Tiraspol are debating these
problems in the 5+2 negotiations and at the meetings with the top
officials from the leading European countries and the United States," he
said.
