Abdul Mehdi requests Talabani to relieve him from Vice President's post

Baghdad (NINA) – Vice President Adel Abdul Mehdi expressed desire not to assume the post of Vice President for a second term.

Informed source told NINA on Sunday, Mar. 27, "Adel Abdul Mehdi requested President Jalal Talabani to relieve him for being Vice President for a second time, which he was nominated to by the President and the National Alliance."

He added, "Among the reasons for Abdul Mehdi's request is the fight over political posts as if they are political booties not a mechanism for serving the citizens."

The source pointed out that the President as well as a number of political leaders wish that Abdul Mehdi assume the post.

The vice presidents have not yet assumed their posts because the post of a third Vice President has not been solved yet, after having the other two vice presidents nominated, Adel Abdul Mehdi and Tariq al-Hashimi; while the third has not yet been determined because of the debate over the rejection of nominating Khdayer al-Khuza'e, where other blocs prefer the third vice president be of a Turkman nationality. / End.
